The Sports Council for Wales (SCW):

The Sports Council for Wales was set up in 1972 and is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity. Its twin aims are to increase participation in sport and to raise standards of performance and excellence.

The Council is the main advisor to the Welsh Assembly Government on sporting matters. Its main task is to lead the implementation of the Assembly Government's sport and physical activity strategy, 'Climbing Higher'. The Council is also responsible for distributing lottery funds to sport in Wales.

Around 170 staff are employed by the Sports Council for Wales - these include Head Office and regional staff, as well as those working at its national centres, the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff and Plas Menai National Watersports Centre, near Caernarfon. The headquarters of the Sports Council for Wales is based at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.
